SOLUTION
LATEST SOFTWARE VERSION:

Are you using the latest software version?

Check the latest version and download an update if needed

To check the version of the program, do the following:

  • Open the program
  • click on Help, then About NEATO/MediaFACE
  • At the bottom of the window, you'll see ver 1.x.build xx

You can also download the full version of MediaFACE by clicking here .

UPGRADES:

I've just downloaded the upgrade. When I try to install it I get the message,
"Cannot find file CDFACE32.EXE"

The program you are actually using is Microvision's Design Express for NEATO, not MediaFace. NEATO no longer supports Design Express for NEATO. Any questions about this program can be sent to support@mvd.com.
You can click here to download MediaFACE.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

To use MediaFACE, you need the following hardware and software:

  • 486 or faster processor. (Pentium 166MHz recommended for high res graphics)
  • Win 95/98 or NT 4.0 or later
  • Video card displaying 640x480 pixels of desktop area / 256 colors
  • 50 Mb free space (minimum) on your hard drive
  • 16 Mb RAM (64 Mb recommended)
  • A CD-ROM drive
  • A printer - Ink Jet technology printers can achieve commercial results with NEATO's Photo Quality High Gloss Paper.
MANUAL

Is there a manual for
MediaFACE?

The MediaFACE manual is provided in electronic format on the CD-ROM and it is located in the folder named manual. The manual is in both a Word and Wordpad format. If you cannot locate the manual on your CD, you can click here to obtain a copy of it.
I'm running Windows NT and when I open the application, I get the error message:

ORDINAL NOT FOUND The ordinal 6883 could not be located in the dynamic link library MFC42.dll

This will happen if you have the incorrect version of the dynamic link library MFC42.dll. You can download the correct version here.

Important - Before replacing the dll file, please remember to backup the original in case you need to replace it in the future.

Image Printing Issues

CONDITION SOLUTION
Whenever I print:
  • I get an insufficient memory error
  • I get an insufficient resources error
  • The color image prints out as black and white
  • The computer spools for a long period of time, then locks up
  • The printer spits out a blank piece of paper
If any of these issues ( or something similar) arise, then download the upgrade to the latest version of MediaFACE
I upgraded MediaFACE, but it still doesn't print correctly Go to your Control Panel and select your display, then choose settings. Once in the Settings section, locate your color palette settings and lower them until you get a print out.
i.e.. If you're at 32-bit color, reduce it to 24-bit or 16-bit or 256 colors till you get a print out.
I get a solid black image when I print.

My EPSON printer spools the print job, but doesn't print

My design includes a background image and some lines of text. When I go to print all I get is the image. The text doesn't print.

Certain printers do not support MediaFACE's masking procedure. To disable this feature, please do the following:
  • Make sure you're using the latest version of MediaFACE
  • Locate the file named cdface32.ini
(This will be in the Windows folder)
  • Open cdface32.ini and add the following to the SETTINGS section:
    QuickPrint=Off
  • If the line QuickPrint=On is already in the settings section, change On to Off
  • Save the file
Only 1/4 of the label prints At the moment there is a scaling issue with MediaFACE and the following video cards:
  • Diamond Fire GL 1000
  • Creative Labs Permedia 2
  • Hercules Dynamite 3D GL

MediaFACE version 1.76 will correct this issue. To download an upgrade, click here.

My text looks fine on the screen but, when I print, the beginning/end of the text field is cut off. In some cases, the border around the text field is tight. You may not see this on the screen, but it will chop off a little of the first/last character when printing. To prevent this, click on the resizing handle of the text field and drag it out a little on both sides.
My Printout doesn't fit within the labels.
You must calibrate the printer. To do so, select the appropriate template in which you wish to work. Next select File, then Printer Calibrate. Next, you'll perform a test print on plain paper and line it up to the label sheet and make your Horizontal and Vertical Offset adjustments accordingly.
Calibration numbers are listed below
My color image print quality is poor Not all ink jet printers will produce equal quality. See our Tutorial:Ink Jet Printing.
To get the best quality your printer can produce, use NEATO's Photo Quality High Gloss papers and the printer settings recommended for your printer

IMPORTANT - The calibration information below is only for version 1.1
If you have version 1.2 or higher, please refer to chapter 10 of the user's manual

Since the software wants the adjusting number in .001 inch, you may find the following conversion table helpful:

1/32" = 31

1/16" = 62

1/8" = 125

1/4" = 250

1/2" = 500

3/4" = 750

for a visual representation

1" = 1000

of printer calibration

Horizontal Movement

use a negative number to move left, to move right leave number as is

Vertical Movement

use a negative number to move up, to move down leave number as is

Also, be sure that where the paper feeds is tight. If it's loose going into the printer, you'll never be able to calibrate.

Software Design Issues

CONDITION SOLUTION
I cannot type multiple lines of text. MediaFACE now supports multiple lines of text. MediaFACE version 1.76 will correct this issue. To download an upgrade, click here.
How do I add the ©, ™ , ® symbols

You must copy and paste these symbols from MS Word into MediaFACE.
Note: You must use the shortcut keys to create the symbols, not the character map.

© - ctrl+alt+c
™ - ctrl+alt+t
® - ctrl+alt+r

How do I add text to the side spine of the Jewel Case Tray Liner? You must first activate the area in which you want to place your text/images. If you want to place text into the side spines, first click on the spine, then add your text.
Remember, you must also angle your text if you place it in the side spines. Typically it is 90 degrees for the left and 270 degrees for the right spine.
No matter what I do, I cannot select a certain field. If you're having difficulty selecting a certain field, use the F8 key. This will cycle through all the fields on the selected area.
How can I change the background color of the template? To add a background color to the template, please do the following:
  • Open the appropriate template
  • Select either the filled rectangel, ellipse or rounded rectangel
  • resize the shape to fill the area of the label you're working in
  • right click on any color on the palette bar to fill the shape
I cannot access the images provided by NEATO. To access the images:
  1. Make sure the MediaFACE CD is in the drive.
  2. Select the area you want to work in.
  3. Right click on the mouse amd a menu will appear.
  4. Select "Add Picture to CD Label /Tray/Book 1".
  5. An open window will appear. Where it reads "Look In", it will specify NEATO. Change this to the drive that corresponds to your CD ROM drive.
  6. A list of all the folders on the CD will appear.
  7. Open the folder named Images, then open the folder named Images72 (72 dpi) or Images 150 (150 dpi).
  8. At the botom of the open window, you'll see "Files of Type". Change this to JPEG or All Files.
  9. All the image files will appear. Select the desired file name and open the file.
  10. Now you'll see a Picture Field Properties window. Select O.K. and the picture will be placed into the area in which you were working.
How can I view the images before placing them on a template? At the moment, MediaFACE doesn't have a picture preview option.
We have created an image index (1.5Mb) which you can use to view the images with any image viewer.
I created a CD label and saved it. Now when I try to reopen it I get a LEAD-10 Error and the file will not open. When you save your work, the image will be saved as a link. A link will create a path to the image rather than save the entire file. If you try to open a file that has a linked image when the image isn't in the same location, the file will not open.

Example: You create a CD label with one of the images on the MediaFACE CD. Next, you save the file and remove the CD for storage. Later on you go to open up the file, but the CD is no longer in the drive. Since the CD is not in the drive, the link is broken, the file cannot be open.

Upgrading to our latest version
will give you the ability to browse for the file if the link is broken

If you have enough room, try embedding the image when saving. This will save the entire image to the file. Otherwise, you'll have to keep track of disks to ensure the right one is in the drive.

How do I choose to either embed or link an image? When you open an image, you'll be in the Picture Field Properties window. On the top of the window, you'll see an OPTIONS tab. Select this. Once in the options window, you'll be given the choice to save an image as a link or to embed it.
NOTE: Embedding an image will make your files larger.
When I attempt to import an image, I get a LEAD 9 Error Invalid File Format. More than likely, one of the DLL files responsible for image handling was improperly installed. You cannot simply uninstall then reinstall the program to correct this. MediaFACE will not uninstall the DLL files so MediaFACE will see the DLL files and skip the installation process when you reinstall. You must do the following:
Delete the following *.DLL files from the Windows/System folder.
LTKRN70N.DLL LTFIL70N.DLL LFFAX70N.DLL
LFBMP70N.DLL LFCAL70N.DLL LFGIF70N.DLL
LFCMP70N.DLL LFEPS70N.DLL LFICA70N.DLL
LFIMG70N.DLL LFLMA70N.DLL LFLMB70N.DLL
LFMAC70N.DLL LFMSP70N.DLL LFPCT70N.DLL
LFPCK70N.DLL LFPNG70N.DLL LFPSD70N.DLL
LFRAS70N.DLL LFTGA70N.DLL LFTIF70N.DLL
LFWFX70N.DLL LFWMF70N.DLL
Once these files have been deleted, reinstall MediaFACE and the problem should cease to exist.
