Manual installation instructions for stubborn mouse driver that will not go away:

  1. Create a directory on your hard drive (right off the root) called "EGSETUP"
  2. Copy all the files from the CD-ROM root directory (12 files total) as well as the "Screens" directory into the "EGSETUP" directory on your hard drive. Note: Because some of the 12 files are system files, in order to see all the 12 files on the CD-ROM root, you may need to change your Explorer settings. To do so, select "Folder Options..." from the "View" menu. Then click on the "View" tab. Then, under "Advanced Settings," click on "Show All Files," and click "OK." Now all the files (including system files) will show up in the Explorer window.
  3. Boot up Windows in "Safe" mode. To do this, restart your machine and press the "F8" key as Windows loads up. Pick "Safe Mode" from the menu that comes up.
  4. After Windows boots up in safe mode, run "Setup.exe" from the directory you created on your hard drive (i.e. the "EGSETUP" directory). Proceed with a normal typical installation of Guitar Method to your hard drive.
  5. Startup "Notepad" (from Start->Programs->Accessories) and open up the text file "WIN.INI" which can be found in the Windows directory on your hard drive.
  6. Find the [eMedia Guitar...] section at the bottom of your win.ini file. Change the "CDdrive=..." line to point to the root of your CD-ROM drive (e.g. if your CD-ROM drive is "D:", the line should read "CDdrive=D:\") Be sure to delete whatever used to be on the line after "CDdrive="
  7. Save the win.ini file and then reboot Windows normally (i.e. not in safe mode)
  8. You can now run Guitar Method by using Explorer (or "My Computer") to get into the directory you installed Guitar Method into (default is "EGUITAR1") and then running the executable found there (called "Eguitar.exe" or "Eguitar2.exe")
  9. Later on you can add Guitar Method to your Start menu by using "Start" -> "Settings" -> "Taskbar & Start Menu..." and then selecting the "Start Menu Programs" tab and clicking on "Add..." and so on...
