1955 saw the creation of the R-13. Under the direction of Robert
Caree, one of Buffet's foremost designers and technicians, this clarinet quickly became "the
legendary choice of professionals." Symphony players, chamber music players,
soloists, teachers, band directors, advanced students, and amateurs alike love the R-13
for its sweet and fine tone color, its power in all registers , its sensitivity that
promotes an immediate response, and the always improved intonation that the 14.64mm Buffet
Crampton polycylindrical bore gives. The R-13 comes in a deluxe naugahyde covered wood
shell case with plush interior.
In 1974, Robert Caree designed the RC model, a clarinet with a
softer sound color and an easy response. By using undercut tone holes and the standard
14.64mm polycylindrical bore on the upper joint; a 3mm longer, conical lower joint, and an
egg-shaped ream within the bell, the RC possesses a slightly brighter tone with less
resistance. It comes standard with a deluxe naugahyde covered wood shell case with plush
interior.
