Aerosmith Cont...
Sometimes when I listen to it, I'm amazed
myself at how good it sounds. I'm so on the
inside, and so much a part of the picture, that
it sometimes boggles my mind when I try and
stand outside of it and just look at it for what
it really is, because it's really good."
With tracks going back as far as "Last Child"
and "Back In The Saddle" included on the album,
Aerosmith has compiled a nice little
retrospective of their recorded history. And
they have quite a repertoire to choose from, but
that was not daunting for the band. "Picking the
versions of the songs, by virtue of having so
many shows was kind of hard, but as far as which
songs, it wasn't that difficult, because it
became pretty obvious to us which songs should
go on there, and we arrange them on the album as
we would a show. So you would hear them the same
on the album as if you came to see us live."
And you'll probably get that chance to see
them live, if they have anything to say about
it, since there doesn't seem to be a time when
they don't plan to tour. Every band member has
hinted in the past that it's the live show, the
on-stage camaraderie, that keeps them going, and
Kramer is no different. "I think it's just the
love of playing. I love to play, and that's
where I'm probably the most comfortable, behind
my drums. And getting up there and playing and
getting a response from the audience is pretty
gratifying and pretty satisfying, and I don't
know if there's anything else that can replace
that in life. If and when that time comes, it'll
be pretty difficult."
If and when that time comes, I hope someone
out there agrees that there should be an
Aerosmith movie. I'll write the script, and if
we can get Liv to play her father, I bet we'll
have another summer blockbuster. And we know
which Boston band will give us the over-the-top
hit theme song.
